Our take

About Sayari Camp

Sayari Camp is a permanent safari camp in the northern Serengeti, close to the Mara River and its seasonal migration crossings. The Kogatende area provides access to river habitats, woodland and open plains. Seasonal herds are a major draw, but lion, leopard and other resident wildlife give the camp a wider role in a Serengeti itinerary. Its permanent suites and main areas make it particularly comfortable for guests who want to spend enjoyable afternoons in camp.

Open views, an infinity pool and a spa create a comfortable base for longer stays. Resident wildlife makes this area rewarding beyond the busiest migration months.

The camp includes a library and information centre as well as a bar and lounge, giving it more to offer between drives than a purely mobile camp. Its solar-powered microbrewery is an unusual feature. A 2025 refresh introduced new seating, textured carpets and replacement baths while preserving the warm wood and canvas character.

Accommodation

Rooms

The 15 tented suites include two family tents and a honeymoon tent. Spacious decks, indoor baths and outdoor showers bring the landscape into the accommodation.

King or twin beds, mosquito nets and fans create comfortable sleeping spaces. En-suite bathrooms combine walk-in showers with freestanding baths, and an outdoor shower adds another way to enjoy the climate. The wraparound veranda is an important part of the suite: a place to read, watch the plains or take a quiet drink before dinner.

Food & drink

Dining

Picnic breakfasts, freshly baked bread and three-course dinners fit around safari activities, with meals served in camp or outdoors.

Light lunches and afternoon baking sit alongside more substantial evening meals. The kitchen can pack food for a longer drive, and bush breakfasts or lunches can be arranged. Communal dining is part of the sociable camp experience, with individual tables available on request.

What to do

Activities

Game drives and seasonal guided walks explore the northern Serengeti. Optional ballooning gives another perspective; river crossings remain unpredictable.

Optional photographic vehicles and balloon flights require advance arrangements and additional payment. Walking is subject to weather and safety assessments, with a minimum age of twelve. Spa treatments provide another option during a slower afternoon.

Planning your stay

Build this into your Tanzania journey.

We would allow at least three nights if crossings are a priority, and longer if your trip has the flexibility. More time creates room to respond to wildlife movement rather than rely on one particular morning. A second Serengeti camp should earn its place by offering a different habitat or wildlife focus.

The right fit

Would Sayari Camp suit you?

Who it suits

Our view: ideal for travellers who want a refined permanent camp close to northern migration country, with comfort and time in camp given proper weight. It is a good fit for honeymooners, families and first-time safari guests who appreciate clear routines and a broad range of facilities.

Things to consider

Sayari normally operates June to March and is reached from Kogatende, approximately twenty minutes away. River crossings depend on the herds and cannot be promised for a particular stay. Children aged five and above are welcomed. We would check family tent availability early for school holidays and explain which private activities and treatments are charged separately.
