Our take

About Roving Bushtops

Roving Bushtops is an eight-tent luxury safari camp that moves between northern and southern Serengeti bases. Its specially designed wheeled tents bring private hot tubs, butler service and spacious decks to a seasonal camp, putting the choice of location at the heart of the stay.

The appeal is a close connection to the landscape with more personal space and service than a simple mobile camp. Vehicles carry the folded tents when the camp relocates between seasons; guests stay at the selected base rather than moving with it each day. A northern stay and a Kusini stay offer different wildlife settings, so the operating position needs to be established before arranging flights.

01

Accommodation

Rooms

Roving Bushtops has eight tented suites built on mobile platforms. Canvas walls open on three sides, with king-size beds, a furnished deck and a sunken hot tub. En-suite bathrooms include flushing toilets, washbasins and showers. Power, Wi-Fi and 24-hour butler service bring practical comforts to the mobile setting. Adjacent units can be arranged for families, with alternative bedding and extra beds for children aged seven or above. The hot tub is a private bathing feature rather than a swimming pool.

02

Food & drink

Dining

Meals are served in the central dining tent, with the option of eating privately at your own tent or having a table set outdoors. The kitchen and portable wine collection move with the camp, allowing restaurant-style dining despite its seasonal footprint. The package includes selected drinks; Champagne and special arrangements need checking separately. We plan meal timings around your safari and discuss dietary requirements before arrival.

03

What to do

Activities

Game drives explore the wildlife around the camp’s seasonal base, with private vehicle arrangements allowing more flexibility over the day. The northern location suits river-country exploration, while the southern Kusini base gives access to the plains during the calving period. Balloon flights, bush breakfasts and sundowners can be arranged around conditions. Massage therapists can set up on your deck between outings. A specialist Beest vehicle experience is an optional extra, rather than the vehicle to assume for every booking.

Planning your stay

How Roving Bushtops fits your journey.

We suggest three or four nights, choosing the camp’s operating base first and the flight connection second. Combine a southern stay with Ngorongoro, or a northern stay with another Serengeti habitat on a longer safari. Zanzibar provides a beach extension when the flight schedule and overall trip length work well.

The right fit

Would Roving Bushtops suit you?

Who it suits

Couples, photographers and families who value a small seasonal camp, flexible safari days and personal service, while still wanting a generous tent and private hot tub.

Things to consider

The camp relocates between northern and southern bases; it does not follow individual herds day by day. Its published pattern is north from June to October and south from December to March, with exact operating dates confirmed before booking. Choose connected family arrangements in advance.

Useful to know

Roving Bushtops FAQs.

How many tents are at Roving Bushtops?

There are eight tented suites. Adjacent Rovers can be arranged for families, with bedding and permitted occupancy confirmed for the party.

Where does Roving Bushtops operate?

The published seasonal pattern places it in northern Serengeti from June to October and in the southern Kusini area from December to March. We confirm exact dates and the arrival airstrip before booking.

Does the camp move during our stay?

Its wheeled design allows relocation between seasonal bases. A normal stay uses the selected camp location; it is not a daily travelling expedition.

Can we see river crossings from the southern camp?

The southern base suits plains wildlife and the seasonal calving period. Mara River crossings require a northern location, and their timing is never guaranteed.
