Our take

About The Retreats at Namiri Plains

The Retreats at Namiri Plains offer a private base for families and friends in the eastern Serengeti’s predator-rich grasslands. Here, the appeal combines the eastern plains’ resident wildlife with the freedom of a dedicated team. A group can have its own lounge, meals and guiding arrangements while still benefiting from the main camp nearby. The setting retains Namiri’s open horizons and access to big cat country, rather than introducing a different Serengeti wildlife area.

A dedicated chef, guide and vehicle allow each stay to follow your interests. The two retreats share a pool and additional lounge; guests can also use the main camp’s facilities.

A separate shared lounge and dining space can accommodate a larger party taking both retreats. This gives groups the option of spending time together while retaining two distinct homes. The camp’s spa and information centre are available when you want to step beyond the retreat, and the surrounding eastern plains offer a wildlife-led setting.

Accommodation

Rooms

Each of the two retreats has two en-suite bedrooms, a central lounge and dining area, a wraparound deck and outdoor baths.

The central living room separates two full-size bedrooms, creating a useful arrangement for two couples or a family. Double vanities and indoor showers accompany the en-suite bathrooms, while free-standing outdoor baths sit at the ends of the deck. The supplier brochure allows two additional single beds for children; we would confirm occupancy and the exact arrangement for your party.

Food & drink

Dining

Your chef prepares meals to suit the day’s plans, whether dining on the deck or taking a picnic on safari.

The dedicated chef can plan meals around early starts, longer drives or a relaxed morning at home. Fresh baking and picnic meals retain the main camp’s approach while keeping the retreat’s schedule flexible. Taking both retreats allows a larger group to share meals in the additional dining space.

What to do

Activities

Private game drives and guided walking explore the surrounding plains. The main camp’s spa and information centre add options between outings.

An optional photographic vehicle or research-focused experience can add depth for an interested group. Walking has a minimum age of twelve and depends on conditions. Children below that age can still enjoy vehicle-based wildlife activities with their family.

Planning your stay

Build this into your Tanzania journey.

We would choose a retreat when private space and control over the day are central to the trip, rather than simply as a larger bedroom. Three or four nights allows the dedicated guide to understand everyone’s interests. For multigenerational travel, we would agree early on whether some family members prefer a longer drive while others remain in camp, then confirm the staffing and vehicle arrangements needed.

The right fit

Would The Retreats at Namiri Plains suit you?

Who it suits

Our view: well suited to families, two couples travelling together, or photographers who need freedom to wait at a sighting. It also works for a small celebration where shared meals matter as much as the safari.

Things to consider

The pool is shared between the two retreats, not a private pool for each house. Children aged five and above are welcomed. Seronera airstrip is approximately two hours away by road. Before booking we would clarify bed configurations, guest numbers, any exclusive-use requirements and which additional experiences carry separate charges.
