Our take

About Mwiba Plains

Mwiba Plains, formerly Songa South, is announced for December 2026 in the Greater Mwiba Protected Wildlife Area on the southern edge of the Serengeti ecosystem. It is a forthcoming camp to consider when planning a southern plains safari.

The location offers a different proposition from a northern river-crossing itinerary. We would build a stay around time on the plains and the wider southern ecosystem, rather than trying to combine distant wildlife events in a short visit. As an opening-season choice, it deserves a careful discussion about dates and readiness before making firm travel plans.

01

Accommodation

Rooms

The announced layout comprises ten en-suite tented rooms and a two-bedroom, two-bathroom family unit. A section with two tents and the family unit can be reserved privately. King or twin configurations and hot showers are listed; children from four are welcome.

02

Food & drink

Dining

The announced facilities include lounge, dining and outdoor eating areas. Bush picnics are also listed for the camp. For an opening-season stay, we will confirm which dining arrangements are available. We suggest leaving longer safari days flexible, with a picnic rather than a fixed return for lunch.

03

What to do

Activities

The published programme includes a private guide and vehicle, game drives after dark and cultural experiences. The camp’s southern position is intended for calving-season wildlife. We will confirm the programme for the actual travel dates, allowing time for general wildlife viewing as well as any seasonal migration interest.

Planning your stay

How Mwiba Plains fits your journey.

We suggest three or four nights once the opening is confirmed. Ngorongoro offers a useful contrast on a northern circuit, while a longer Serengeti itinerary can add another habitat. Keep the opening date and camp arrangements settled before buying connecting flights. The best route depends on where else you want to go, not simply the shortest line on a map.
