About Kuria Hills

Kuria Hills Lodge is a luxury safari lodge set amongst dramatic granite kopjes in the remote northern Serengeti, close to the Mara River and the Kenyan border. Its position in the Wogakurya Hills combines sweeping views across the surrounding plains with excellent access to the wildlife of the northern Serengeti.

Kuria Hills has been cleverly incorporated into the surrounding rocky landscape, with contemporary buildings tucked between enormous granite boulders and designed to make the most of the views. Despite its remote location, the lodge offers a high level of comfort, with attractive communal areas, a swimming pool and plenty of space to relax between game drives. The combination of permanent lodge facilities and an excellent wilderness location makes it unique.

Accommodation comprises 15 spacious glass-fronted suites spread amongst the kopjes to provide plenty of privacy. Each suite has a large bedroom and sitting area, en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers and a generous private deck with its own plunge pool overlooking the surrounding landscape. Contemporary interiors are softened by natural materials and African influences, while the extensive use of glass ensures the scenery remains a major part of the experience even when relaxing inside.

Food & drink

Dining

Dining is relaxed but refined, with meals served in the lodge’s main dining area or outside when conditions allow. Fresh, thoughtfully prepared menus combine international dishes with African influences, while bush breakfasts and other private dining experiences can be incorporated into days on safari. Sundowners amongst the kopjes or out on the Serengeti plains are a particular highlight before returning to the lodge for dinner.

What to do

Activities

Game drives explore the remote northern Serengeti, an area known for excellent populations of lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo alongside abundant plains game. From roughly July through October, the Great Migration becomes the major attraction as huge herds of wildebeest and zebra move through the region and may attempt dramatic crossings of the Mara River, although the timing and location of crossings can never be guaranteed.

The Serengeti changes character through the year. Southern plains, central valleys, western corridor and northern river country are different choices; we position a camp for your dates and interests rather than promising a particular herd movement.

A two- or three-night stay gives time to settle in, while extra nights can be valuable if the migration is a priority. Consider how flights and onward connections affect time in the field.
