Our take

About Forest Chem Chem

Forest Chem Chem is an exclusive-use tented camp beneath acacia trees in the Burunge Wildlife Management Area. Booked for one party, it gives families and friends their own camp within a wildlife landscape between Tarangire and Lake Manyara.

Its strongest appeal is the chance to share a safari without sharing the camp with other bookings. We would start by mapping your party’s bedrooms and daily preferences: the right private camp should work as comfortably for someone resting in the afternoon as for those keen to be out with a guide.

01

Accommodation

Rooms

Three en-suite tented rooms and a two-bedroom, two-bathroom family suite provide the accommodation. Indoor and outdoor showers, air conditioning and shaded patios are listed. The camp has a swimming pool, gym and spa, with children of all ages welcome.

02

Food & drink

Dining

Outdoor meals and bush picnics let you make more of the setting. The Ponya menu offers a wellbeing-focused alternative alongside the wider kitchen offering. We suggest arranging a picnic on a longer drive rather than returning to camp simply for lunch. Share dietary requirements before travelling, and discuss special dinners when we put together your stay.

03

What to do

Activities

Private game drives and outings after dark are part of the safari offering. Elephant encounters are a particular draw, while the wooded camp setting encourages time between activities. We recommend agreeing the rhythm around the youngest guests and allowing adults the option of quieter afternoons; activity suitability remains the guide’s decision.

Planning your stay

How Forest Chem Chem fits your journey.

We suggest three nights for a family or friends’ stay, with time to enjoy having the camp to yourselves. Continue to Ngorongoro and Serengeti for a longer northern route, or concentrate on fewer bases if travelling with younger children. Before confirming, we review bedroom allocation, ages, vehicle arrangements and how much travel the group will enjoy.

The right fit

Would Forest Chem Chem suit you?

Who it suits

Families, multi-generational parties and friends who value a camp reserved entirely for their group. It is particularly worth comparing when a shared lodge’s routine would not suit everyone.

Things to consider

The booking is for the camp rather than an individual room. It is unfenced and children need supervision. The published closure is April and May; transfers from Chem Chem’s airstrip take around 45 minutes.
