Our take

About Dunia Camp

Dunia Camp is a permanent tented camp in the south-central Serengeti, with access to the Moru Kopjes and Seronera wildlife areas. The camp’s south-central position brings access to a mix of river habitats, open plains and granite kopjes. Resident predators provide interest outside migration periods, while seasonal herds can pass through the wider area. A small tented layout and the surrounding valley give Dunia its own character within a park where camp location meaningfully changes the experience.

An all-women team runs the camp. Its setting combines year-round wildlife with seasonal passages of the migration, while the main deck gives space to watch the surrounding plains.

The female team is integral to Dunia’s character, bringing an individual sense of welcome and an important example of opportunities for women in safari hospitality. The open main deck, lounge and dining area look across a quiet valley, creating a place to pause between drives without losing the feeling of being in the Serengeti.

Accommodation

Rooms

Eight tents include a family suite. Each has an en-suite bathroom with a hot shower and a private veranda.

The tents stand on raised decks and can be arranged with double or twin beds. Bathrooms have indoor hot showers, and each private veranda offers space for reading or a morning coffee. The family tent provides a larger arrangement for parents and children; exact occupancy should be checked for your party.

Food & drink

Dining

The kitchen prepares fresh meals in camp, sourcing vegetables and other ingredients locally where possible.

Meals are prepared on site and use locally sourced ingredients where possible. Communal dining creates a sociable atmosphere, with individual tables available on request. Bush picnics allow a full day exploring further from camp without committing to a return for lunch.

What to do

Activities

Game drives seek big cats and other resident wildlife around the kopjes and river valleys. Optional balloon safaris offer aerial views; migration sightings depend on the month.

Seronera’s river habitats and the granite formations of Moru offer contrasting areas for game drives. Sunrise balloon flights can be arranged at additional cost and require early planning. Seasonal migrating herds add another layer to the resident wildlife rather than determining the only worthwhile months to visit.

Planning your stay

Build this into your Tanzania journey.

We would normally allow three nights, giving the guide time to balance nearby sightings with longer explorations. Dunia can work as a single Serengeti base within a shorter northern itinerary or complement a northern camp on a longer safari. The choice should follow your month and wildlife interests rather than an assumption that every part of the Serengeti provides the same experience.

The right fit

Would Dunia Camp suit you?

Who it suits

Our view: a strong fit for travellers who value a warm, personal camp atmosphere and traditional tented accommodation. It suits couples, families and first-time safari guests who want a useful balance of resident wildlife and seasonal migration interest.

Things to consider

Dunia is open year-round and lies approximately forty-five minutes from Seronera airstrip. Children aged five and above are welcomed. Migration passages change with rainfall, and wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. We would discuss the family tent early and compare the camp’s facilities with your expectations for afternoons in camp before booking.
