Our take

About Lemala Nanyukie Lodge

Lemala Nanyukie is a contemporary safari lodge east of Seronera in the Serengeti. Grassland, acacia trees and rocky kopjes frame the property, while the area’s big cats make wildlife viewing an important focus beyond the migration itself. Private plunge pools and generous living space give it a distinctly lodge-style level of comfort.

The lodge uses canvas walls, tall tented ceilings, timber decks and pale interiors, with furnishings and lighting giving the spaces a contemporary feel. Accommodation is separated across the grounds, while the double-height main area brings together the lounge and bar. Outdoor seating leads towards the communal swimming pool, and a separate spa tent sits among the trees. The setting is particularly associated with predator viewing, although migration herds may also pass through at the appropriate time. The main appeal is the combination of a substantial retreat with direct access to the eastern plains.

Accommodation

Rooms

There are 13 standard suites and one two-bedroom family suite, giving 15 guest bedrooms in total. Standard suites have an oversized bed, a lounge and a generous bathroom with double vanities, showers and a freestanding bath. The wooden deck adds sunken seating, an outdoor shower and a corner plunge pool looking towards the grassland. The family unit has two bedrooms with individual bathrooms and a shared larger deck and pool. Minibars, fans, safes and charging facilities add the practical details expected of a longer lodge stay.

Food & drink

Dining

Nanyukie’s dining room looks across the Serengeti plains, with individual table service and an à la carte menu. Indoor and outdoor dining give a choice of setting, and dietary preferences can be catered for with advance notice. Bush breakfasts and lantern-lit dinners can be arranged to vary the experience, rather than assuming every meal takes place in the same room. The lounge, bar and evening campfire provide places to continue the conversation after dinner or before the next activity.

What to do

Activities

Game drives are the main way to explore the eastern Serengeti, while guided walks offer a change of perspective. Lemala’s walking safaris are led by a trained walking guide with a park ranger and are adapted to conditions and interests. Balloon flights can be arranged as a separate early-morning activity, ending with breakfast after landing. We would balance these with time at the lodge rather than assume that every day needs both a long drive and another excursion. The walking programme can focus on tracks, plants and the smaller details that are easy to miss while driving.

Planning your stay

Build this into your Tanzania journey.

Three or four nights would usually be our starting point, giving time to explore and enjoy the lodge. A northern Serengeti camp can add a different area when your dates and interests justify it; another nearby stop needs a clear purpose. Nanyukie can also follow Ngorongoro on a broader circuit. For honeymoons, we would balance settled safari days against a beach extension rather than make every day a transfer.

The right fit

Would Lemala Nanyukie Lodge suit you?

Who it suits

Nanyukie particularly suits couples who want contemporary accommodation and a private plunge pool without losing the wildlife focus. Families can consider the two-bedroom unit. It is also appealing for travellers who want to spend enough time at one lodge to enjoy its facilities between outings.

Things to consider

We would confirm the actual suite category and occupancy rather than describe all 15 bedrooms as separate suites. Walking depends on conditions and group suitability. Migration sightings are seasonal possibilities, not promises. Compare the full proposal with guiding, park fees and transfers included; accommodation-only prices do not show the total safari cost.
