Where to go on safari in Tanzania?
Where to go in Tanzania?
A tough question; let us break it down
Northern Tanzania
Tanzania’s northern national parks are, quite simply, iconic. At the heart lies the legendary Serengeti National Park, home to the world-famous Great Migration. Nearby, you can descend into the renowned Ngorongoro Crater, explore the elephant-rich Tarangire National Park, or admire the beauty of Lake Manyara.
Southern Tanzania
Tanzania’s southern national parks are ideal for travellers seeking a safari that feels raw, private, and adventurous — yet still wonderfully luxurious. The vast wildernesses of Nyerere and Ruaha see far fewer visitors than the north, offering a more exclusive experience with superb walking safaris and unique water-based activities not available elsewhere.
Western Tanzania
Tanzania's Western parks, Katavi and Mahale, are going off the beaten track. Due to the relative costs and inaccessibility of the region, only those ready to invest time and money tend to be able to get out here, which is a shame, as this is an outstanding region of Africa.
Zanzibar Archipelago
Just a short scenic flight from the mainland, the Zanzibar Archipelago is a tropical paradise where African, Arabian, and European influences meet. Famous as the perfect post-safari retreat, it also works beautifully as a stand-alone escape, with idyllic beaches and vibrant culture all within a few hours of any Tanzanian safari.
