Why this route

A journey with a clear sense of pace.

The extra flying is rewarded with two of Tanzania’s most distinctive and remote experiences.

Katavi and Mahale make a distinctive pairing: a remote wildlife safari followed by forest walks and time beside Lake Tanganyika. Three nights in each allow the trip to develop a rhythm, with the first night and travel connections arranged around the available flights.

The two stops ask different things of the traveller. Katavi is centred on wildlife viewing, while Mahale brings guided chimpanzee tracking and a change of pace by the lake. Forest walks can be demanding, and wildlife encounters cannot be guaranteed, so we discuss fitness, interests and expectations before recommending the route. It works best for travellers who are comfortable with remote camps and who want an experience beyond a conventional first safari.

Every journey is tailor-made. We adjust the route, camps and balance of nights around your dates and interests.

When to go

Let the season shape your safari.

The core season is broadly June to October. Shared charter schedules, camp opening dates and lake conditions shape the exact order.

Remote camp operating dates and scheduled flight days are important here. We confirm the connections before fixing the order, and explain what to expect from chimpanzee tracking for your dates.

These are broad seasonal patterns. Weather and wildlife movements vary from year to year.

Indicative for two people sharing. We quote your journey individually for your dates, room arrangements and preferred camps.

What affects the price?

Shared charter schedules, the cost of reaching Katavi and Mahale, camp opening dates and limited room availability strongly influence the quote.
