Our take

About Kichaka Expeditions

Kichaka promises a sense of exclusivity in its staggeringly remote location. A luxury camp but with a fly camp option, you'll have the most epic of stays and gather memorable tales of your own on a walking safari with their guides.

Nestled amid Ruaha's serene grasslands, where ancient baobabs stand as enduring witnesses to a millennium of elephant activity, Kichaka seamlessly blends into the landscape. The main lodge, characterized by thatched roofs and a subtle elegance, is divided into three distinct areas: a plush lounge and information center, an open-air 'Star Bar' where guests gather around the fire for drinks, and a dining room. The camp operates entirely on solar power, while also providing essential charging points for cameras.

Accommodation

Rooms

Enhancing its sense of exclusivity, Kichaka offers only three suites, each crafted with organic materials and adorned with expansive canvas windows that unveil breathtaking vistas. A short stroll away, discover an open-sided bathroom featuring a hand-carved stone tub and an outdoor shower. On the opposite side of the suite, a cozy sitting area complements a crescent plunge pool, and a set of steps leads to a rooftop terrace offering the ultimate vantage point. Additionally, three larger bandas are set to debut in 2024.

What to do

Activities

Kichaka specializes in walking safaris (for guests aged 16 and above), led by experienced guides who lead you on a quest to spot rare antelope and even accompany a herd of elephants on foot. Boasting the highest concentration of elephants in Tanzania, Ruaha is also home to substantial prides of lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, and African painted dogs, observable during both day and night drives. In the rainy season, Ruaha transforms into a birding haven as migrating flocks converge along the river.

Planning your stay

How Kichaka Expeditions fits the journey.

Ruaha is a rewarding choice for travellers who value space, varied habitats and serious guiding. Wildlife viewing changes as the Ruaha River and seasonal water sources change.

Flights from Dar es Salaam or other safari areas influence the route. Allow enough nights to justify the journey and to explore more than one part of the park.
