Our take

About Songa Tented Camp

Songa sits on a hillside in Kogatende in the northern Serengeti, within reach of the Mara River. Canvas accommodation and broad views make it a camp to consider for a northern safari, with the migration season an important part of the planning.

Our approach is to allow enough time for both river-country drives and wider wildlife exploration. A crossing should be a possibility rather than the only measure of a successful day. Songa is worth comparing with nearby camps on the quality of the overall stay, the room layout and your preferred style of guiding.

01

Accommodation

Rooms

There are ten en-suite tented rooms with king or twin bedding, rainfall showers and dressing space. Vintage furnishings give the interiors a traditional safari character. Children from four are accepted, and an additional child’s bed can be requested subject to room capacity.

02

Food & drink

Dining

Outdoor meals and bush picnics let you make more of the setting. We suggest arranging a picnic on a longer drive rather than returning to camp simply for lunch. Share dietary requirements before travelling, and discuss special dinners when we put together your stay.

03

What to do

Activities

Game drives use a private guide and vehicle. Balloon safaris, picnic lunches and sundowners can also be arranged. We suggest balancing time near the river with drives across the surrounding plains: waiting at a single crossing point for an entire stay can mean missing other wildlife.

Planning your stay

How Songa Tented Camp fits your journey.

Allow three or four nights as a northern Serengeti base. On a longer safari, we may pair it with central or eastern Serengeti, or combine it with Ngorongoro before flying north. We build the route around the month and overall trip length, avoiding unnecessary road transfers when a flight gives you more useful safari time.
