Our take

About Mila Tented Camp

Mila is a small canvas camp in Nyasirori in the western Serengeti. Its position makes it an appealing alternative to a safari built entirely around the park’s central and northern areas, especially for travellers who want time to explore one landscape properly.

We would choose Mila for a deliberate stay in the west, giving the camp several nights rather than treating it as a stop between distant regions. Pairing contrasting habitats usually makes a more rewarding itinerary than changing camps every day. The emphasis here is on guiding and time outdoors, with a comfortable tent to return to.

01

Accommodation

Rooms

Five en-suite tented rooms are joined by a two-bedroom, two-bathroom family unit. King or twin beds, rainfall showers, dressing space and private decks provide the essentials of a comfortable canvas stay. Children aged four and above are welcome; family occupancy should be agreed before booking.

02

Food & drink

Dining

Outdoor meals and bush picnics let you make more of the setting. We suggest arranging a picnic on a longer drive rather than returning to camp simply for lunch. Share dietary requirements before travelling, and discuss special dinners when we put together your stay.

03

What to do

Activities

A private guide and vehicle give flexibility on game drives. Walking safaris and balloon flights are also listed, with walking normally available from age twelve at the guide’s discretion. We recommend treating these as additions to an unhurried game-viewing stay; confirm availability and any supplementary charges for your dates.

Planning your stay

How Mila Tented Camp fits your journey.

We suggest three or four nights, with the western Serengeti as a distinct chapter of your safari. Combine with Ngorongoro for a contrasting landscape, or add another Serengeti area if the trip is long enough to justify a second base. Zanzibar can follow when flight connections allow. We choose the arrival airstrip after the route is settled.

The right fit

Would Mila Tented Camp suit you?

Who it suits

Couples and families who enjoy a small tented camp and want to explore western Serengeti without moving on immediately. It is a good comparison when guiding and atmosphere matter more than a large lodge’s facilities.

Things to consider

The published annual closure is 1 April to 15 May. Grumeti Airstrip is around an hour away by game drive. Migration movements vary; choose the west for the whole wildlife experience rather than a promise of particular herds.
